Benefits
LoRa is great because of its low total cost of ownership when you operate many devices. LoRa requires no SIM card or data plan for each device, which is required when using cellular. Using LoRa may require an additional cost of purchasing a gateway if you live in a rural area.Our BeeSecure app also allows you to notify law enforcement directly of stolen items.
Trade-offs
LoRa currently has very limited coverage in Canada. In comparison, Canada has a very dense cellular coverage which makes it great to use for long distance tracking.
When using a LoRa tracker you will not be able to receive a real-time position if it moves out of range of a LoRa gateway. When outside of a LoRa network area you can still be alerted the moment your tracker starts to move and know what direction it is heading.
Expanding LoRa Coverage
BeeSecure LoRa gateways can be purchased by individuals, businesses, and organizations to provide coverage for their devices. This can help grow the community network.
If your device leaves an area covered by your gateway, and enters the coverage area of another gateway, your device will transfer communication through that gateway.
You can build a local LoRa network exactly where you need it. Set up your own gateways or partner with neighboring individuals to share a network and expand coverage further.
